DALLAS (AP) — A trial begins this week for a man accused of the savage beating of a Dallas transgender woman who was killed a month later in an unrelated homicide.
Jury selection is set for Tuesday and testimony is expected to begin Wednesday in the aggravated assault trial of Edward Dominic Thomas . Police say he admitted to beating Muhlaysia Booker on April 12 outside the Royal Crest Apartments in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas.
Police said Thomas was one of the assailants captured on video and that he was offered $200 to beat the 23-year-old woman.
Booker spoke publicly at a rally a week after the beating to appeal for justice. She was found dead of a gunshot wound on May 18 on a Dallas street . Kendrell Lavar Lyles awaits trial on a murder charge .
