Cristhian Bahena Rivera, the 24-year-old suspect in the Mollie Tibbetts case, is making his first court appearance on Wednesday.
His preliminary hearing has been set for August 31. If he is ultimately convicted of first-degree murder, Rivera would get a life sentence. There is no death penalty in Iowa.
