Darnell Scott, 37, was denied bail after stabbing the 50-year-old with a small pocket knife, leaving him with abdomen, neck, leg and arm wounds, the Chicago Tribunereported.
A Chicago man stabbed his brother-in-law at least 25 times, partially disemboweling him in front of horrified riders on a city bus Thursday, prosecutors said.
The brother-in-law, who wasn’t named, survived the attack but was hospitalized in critical condition.
The men are related by marriage, but don’t get along, Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Craig Taczy said in court.
Taczy said the incident began when Scott got on a bus and passed his brother-in-law without saying anything. The older man approached Scott at the back of the bus, and the men got into a fight, he said.
Scott then pulled out his knife and stabbed his brother-in-law while on the floor as some commuters recorded the incident on their cell phones, the prosecutor said.
The victim later told police he was hit after asking Scott if he had sent people to “jump him,” an arrest report says.
Prosecutors didn’t say what caused the fight. Scott is charged with aggravated battery.
