On the evening of December 8, 2025, Jubilant Skyes was pronounced dead on scene at his Santa Monica home. After receiving a 9-1-1 call about an assault in progress, officers from the Santa Monica Police Department quickly arrived on scene. Soon after, Santa Monica Fire Department personnel responded to the scene to officially pronounce Mr. Skyes dead.
His son, Micah Skyes, was also found at the residence. He was taken into custody without incident by the Santa Monica Police Department. Mr. Skyes was found with injuries consistent with those of a stabbing. He was reported to have multiple stab wounds.
Jubilant Skyes, 71, was a Grammy-nominated opera singer. He was nominated for his album Mass at the 52nd Grammy Awards in 2010. Throughout his career, Mr. Skyes has performed at a number of well-known venues including the Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall, and the Kennedy Center.
The incident was reported to be an isolated event that occurred within a private residence, and it was noted that there is no ongoing threat to the community, as announced in a December 9 press release by the Santa Monica Police Department.
When detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division arrived at the scene, they obtained an emergency search warrant to search the inside of the home. Among other evidential artifacts, they found the murder weapon, which is currently being processed by forensic specialists.
On December 8, Micah Skyes, 31, was booked on suspicion of homicide and the case was brought to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration. Days later, and charges have officially been filed.
Micah Skyes was formally charged with first-degree murder of his father. He briefly appeared in court, however his attorney requested a continuance for arraignment. His new arraignment date is set for February 11, 2026. Meanwhile, a downtown Los Angeles judge granted the prosecution’s request for him to be held without bail.
