The Background:
When an unarmed Florida teen was gunned down by a volunteer neighborhood watchguard without an arrest, millions of social activists took to the streets demanding justice for Trayvon Martin. Nearly a month after the murder, George Zimmerman was arrested and charged with the murder of the boy. As both sides prepare for trial and new evidence comes out every day, will the deciding factor in the case ultimately be Florida’s controversial “stand your ground” law? Trial is currently set for June 10, 2013.

Who is to say that Trayvon attacked in the first place, except George? Maybe George pushed or grabbed Travon, and then he hit George. We will never know, except for the words of GZ. There was at least one detective that said George’s statements didn’t add up to him. Then they got him off the case. It is a sad day in America when a person 17 years old can’t go to the store and come back without getting shot. A hoodie…seriously, it was raining! So sad a young man had to loose his life because somebody chose to play cop instead of being the concerned civilian and following what the dispatcher told him to do.

According to you that’s a good enough reason to be shot and killed? What is wrong with you? Did you actually see where the shooting took place? It wasn’t even on the street, TM had turned down a pathway that went between the buildings to his uncles apartment. GZ followed him needlessly and confronted him, treyvon was clearly defending himself from this idiot who was scaring the crap out if him. I would have been ready to fight as well. See how you feel when someone is following you down a dark alley.
You are right about Martin being ready to fight… but if he was aware of, afraid of, and concerned with an unknown person following him, why didn’t he just call police 911..??? Zimmerman had already called police 911, as other citizens would ultimately do… if Martin would just made the police 911 call, he would of been told “the police are aware and on the way” … seems like Martin wanted the confrontation that he got that night.. doesn’t matter what happens to Zimmerman, Martin will still be just as dead …

First off, a dispatcher is NOT a police officer, Trayvon is not a “child” he was buying the ingredients to make Lean… not an innocent young man buying candy. Its clear that what happened was innocent little trayvon was walking looking suspicious, as he was most likely smoking a blunt purchased for him from the ones that walked in the store right after him while he waited outside.
GZ was a concerened citizen with a lawful right to carry a firearm and was following Trayvon to make certain that he wasnt up to any good. The dispatcher is NOT an officer and can advise you as a citizen, but not order you to stop.. He followed and then was on his way back to his vehicle when Trayvon obviously approached him with attitude and punched GZ who fell, Trayvon started bashing GZs head into the pavement and GZ SCREAMED for help.. Trayvon wouldnt.. he was in charge at the time.

I agree w/RL, GZ should have kept himself in his truck. TM was no physical threat to GZ or anyone else before GZ got out of his truck. Stand your ground (to me) means staying put, not moving. Sort of like a catcher protecting the plate. TM was not breaking into GZ’s truck, and the “ground” GZ was so called protecting was not his and Miss Missy, I use to live in Los Angeles and Missy those “THUGS” would make you keep your ass in your car, gun or no gun.
My thought, if GZ had not had a gun would he still have approached TM?
This is a tough one for me. I do believe the kid was up to no good, I believe he is the one that attacked first. But..I don’t think Mr. Z should have gotten out of his car either. The police were on the way, they told him not to follow him..yet he did it anyhow. Almost have to say guilty just because of that. If you go against police orders and it results in something like this..you have to face the music. I think it should be manslaughter though. But have a very open mind and want to hear the trial. My thoughts and prayers to both families.
Mr. Martin turned 17 just a few weeks before he attacked Mr. Zimmerman. In the whole of the United States, if you are attacked you have the right to defend yourself and “meet force with force” – based on common law. In this case, the prosecution is going to try and say that Mr. Zimmerman was the initial aggressor (otherwise their case would be much worse than it is – they’ve already admitted that Mr. Martin attacked Mr. Zimmerman). In doing so, they’re going to go against what the Florida Supreme Court has said. One can not be the “initial aggressor” without committing a crime; the only crime Mr. Zimmerman is charged with is Murder II. The fallacy is painfully obvious. “How is he committing an independent crime (forcible felony, to be more specific) .. if he’s not charged with it?”
They (the prosecution) already admitted Trayvon attacked GZ? No they didn’t. So typical of Zidiots to make stuff up or regurgitate the stuff other Zidiots made up
GZ was the initial aggressor. He stopped, he called, he was told to wait for law enforcement, he chose not to follow the instructions of the dispatcher even and he was NOT in imminent danger. More importantly, GZ had a gun.
It was more than reasonable for TM to defend himself against GZ. That would be covered under self defense. TM was not armed and was being pursued by a stranger. The teenager was, literally, trying to stand his ground.
To prove a self-defense case you need to prove the force used was reasonable. GZ does not have this reason. He pursued and then used lethal force before police arrived.
Hopefully, the prosecution will have enough evidence. Unfortunately, even if GZ is convicted it is unlikely he will have to serve much time. GZ’s father is a retired judge who has many connections and this did happen in Florida where justice can prove elusive.
Safia, you are right. GZ’s dad is the reason he wasn’t arrested in the first place. He should be arrested and prosecuted along with others involved for obstruction of justice.
Aj how aggressive could Trayvon have been to GZ have been had GZ remained in his truck. The first step of aggression was putting himself (GZ) into the situation, which he was directed not to do.

Does anyone know if the police were en-route before the shooting occurred. GZ called them didn’t he. Did they feel there was a probable cause enough for them to go out and investigate the situation before the shooting. After all, there was a black guy in a hoodie walking around without permission from his master.
I think it is poor characterization to say that George Zimmerman “gunned down” Trayvon Martin. The “teen” is no angel. He had a record of bad behavior. This page needs an update: GZ is not making a “stand your ground defense.” And why aren’t any of the posts time/date stamped?
Technically, he did gun him down. He followed, he was getting beaten, then he shot. He didn’t need to follow him. His attorneys backed down from the “Stand Your Ground” defense because they know they can’t prove it.

It happens every day in every community; kids walk to the local store for a snack and a bit of fresh air and walk home again. High school student Trayvon Martin walked to his community store for a snack and was walking back home carrying Skittles and a canned drink. George Zimmerman was a member of Neighborhood Watch, supposed to be protecting Trayvon’s neighborhood, protecting Trayvon. Instead of introducing himself and finding out that Trayvon lived in the neighborhood, he stalked this unarmed boy, hunting Trayvon down while the police were telling him to remain in his vehicle, and shot the boy dead. Zimmerman killed one of the very children he was supposed to be protecting. The end.
We know what the trial is about.

Trayvon Martin was walking down the treet, in ahoodie, eatig Skittles and drinking an Arizona juice. Zimmerman saw him and called the police saying, ‘I am tried of al these gangbangers and thugs in our neighborhood, I’m gonna kill him, I’m gonna kill him’ and the police said, ‘Leave him alone’ trying to make him not bother Trayvon. But he felt ‘threatened’.
Meanwhile, Trayvon was on the phone with his gf and he saif that he was feeling scared because Zimmerman was following him. He ended up confronting Zimmerman and asked why he was following him, which efveryone has a right to do. In the end, Zimmerman killed him.

Zimmerman is indeed lucky he wasn’t creeping on this old woman because when I turned to face him I would be pulling the trigger at the same time. It’s not the day and age when you can sneak up on people or follow them closely for no reason; doing so can well get you killed and certainly doesn’t qualify as self defense. You’re not “standing your ground” when you’re creeping on people – you’re walking and you become a threat.

This was a 17 year old minding his own business walking home with a pack of candy, soda & talking to his girlfriend on his cell phone! His hands were occupied he was not up to anything! He was seen by this GZ, who was supposed to be on his way to a retail store who seized the opportunity to pretend to be a cop. As more and more facts & lies are exposed, I am 99.9% convinced that George Zimmerman acted in self-defense. He begged for help from the police, he cried for help from by-standers, & as a last resort he shot one, and only one, shot to stop the assault which caused him to fear death or great bodily harm. With schools unable to paddle students these days, a lot of high school students get a police record instead of a paddling, which would be much less traumatizing. A high school kid with a police record isn’t a strange thing in these days of no corporal punishment for children. A child’s first introduction to punishment is a jail cell nowadays.
